The history of the New Balance 550 cannot be told without mentioning Teddy Santis and his Aimé Leon Dore label. Having reintroduced the silhouette to the Boston-based brand’s core lineup of products in late 2020, Santis and the team have transformed the Steven Smith-designed silhouette from 1989 from an unheralded archival design to one of the most celebrated retro styles of the last two years. Ahead of Spring 2022, ALD has teased three new colorways of the 550. As the sneaker space awaits for Santis to unveil the Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 991 pairs teased in his label’s Spring/Summer 2022 lookbook, it now has upcoming releases of the New Balance 550 to add to its calendars. Akin to the original four offerings launched with the help of Team SONNY, each new pair indulges in a premium, white-colored leather upper and slightly-yellowed midsole. Branding, accent panels, and performance-informed components across the sole unit, then, introduce three new colors to the ALD x New Balance roster of collaborations brown, khaki green, and a deep rosewood-like hue animate respective pairs in a way that falls in line with Santis’ expansive design catalog. Official release details haven’t been disclosed by any of the parties involved, but that’s likely to change as spring gets underway. The two names have already released multiple colorways of this model in the past and created a new hype with he model. The upcoming pairs have a retro look and come in' coffee' shades. The sneakers do not have an official release date yet. However, we can expect the colorways in 2022. The three upcoming colorways share a vintage look. The upper of all three colorways comes in off-white and the midsole has been given a cream color. The overlays on the upper come in brown, olive green and deep purple. On the center panel is the N-logo as always. On the toe, the 550 model returns and comes in brown, olive green or deep purple. All three colorways have been given the same design and have a leather upper. Also, the Aimé Leon Dore logo has been put on the tongue and on the heel, the New Balance logo appears. In continuation of the NB 550 collection released in October 2020 article available HERE, the two partners present two new colorways for the spring season. Last fall, ALD helped New Balance to re-launch the almost forgotten bball 550 silhouette. Building on the success of this collaborative re-release, ALD founder Teddy Santis unveiled a new colorway on his Instagram account with the tagline Spring 550 ». In addition to this iteration with green and yellow accents, a version featuring red and navy blue will join the next release. These vintage looking sneakers consist of a white leather base with the previously stated colorways appearing on the side N logo, collar and tongue and heel branding details respectively. The whole is based on a yellowed midsole combined with a grey outsole with touches of green or red depending on the iteration.
